Byrhnoth ends up getting stabbed a couple of times but he continues to fight for his people. As the last blow strikes his body he knows he is dying with honor and bravery. Both of these examples show a high characteristic in bravery and both show equal amounts of consistency in the bravery department up to this point. The second example that involves bravery that I chose has to deal with the people that were willing to follow their leaders into battle. It takes a brave individual to go into battle knowing that their either out numbered or that they are completely outmatched. In Beowulf their was a group of warriors from Geatland that followed Beowulf on his adventures and helped him get out of different situations . One of the notable situations i recall is when Beowulf and his men are in Heorot Hall and Grendel shows up to kill. The men are scared and some start to get killed but they show bravery by standing by Beowulfs side whenever he tries and attacks and eventually takes down Grendel. In the Battle of Maldon a similar situation occurs when the Vikings start to come on shore. Byrhtnoth ordered his men to line up at the shore line in order to hinder the Vikings from coming on shore. This is a brave and risky task because the Vikings are using spears and arrows so they wont have to get very close to hurt them. The fact that the men took those orders without hesitation shows that have a high quality trait in bravery, and they trust their leader in this tough situation. The third example that I felt belonged in this discussion was what some of the men did after their leader died. In the end of Beowulf there is a great dragon that starts terrorizing Geatland because of a disturbance in his lair. Before Beowulf goes and tries to kill the dragon, he goes and gathers eleven of his best men from Geatland. Before they leave Beowulf informs his men that it is an extremely big chance that he might die. Once they get to the dragons lair Beowulf goes to face the dragon by himself and ends up dying from a bite from the dragon. When this happens ten of the eleven men decide to act cowardly and run away from the fight, but one man named Wiglaf stays and fights the dragon by his lonesome and ends up killing the dragon. This act that Wiglaf does one of the bravest and loyal things an individual can do in that situation. Wigalf could have run away with the rest of the men but he decided to stay and show honor and bravery by killing the dragon after it killed his leader. In the Battle of Maldon the same thing basically happened when their leader Byrhtnoth went down. As the tides started to shift in battle when Olaf’s men started getting on shore and some of Byrhtnoth men decided to flee. When a small group of his men decided to retreat more and more followed because they thought that was the signal to retreat but it really wasn’t. The men that started running away first were Gordic and his brothers, and that triggered the reaction to the rest of the men. Even though most of the men ran, a couple of men decided to be honorable and brave and fight until death. I think this theme of bravery is the most important theme that I have given thus far. It also goes along with my second example but this theme shows more bravery, courageousness and more honor because they are fighting for their fallen leader. It takes a strong willed and an extremely brave individual to stay and fight when their leader and strongest person has fallen and there is now no one there to give them orders in battle. This theme shows up a lot in different stories and movies in today’s world. A more up to date example of this is in the Star Wars series. In a couple of the movies the main Jedi, the leader, dies and the Padawan has to step up to the plate and fight the enemy by himself instead of running away like a lot of people would do in the same situation. Grendel’s mother would already be hard enough to fight alone, but add on the fact that its under water and add the fact that none of Beowulf’s weapons work on Grendel’s mother shows that Beowulf is an extremely daring individual and that he really isn’t scared in any situation. In the battle of Maldon, Byrhtnoth also does something that doesn’t quite make sense but shows how much of a brave and daring individual he is.

True Feelings in Billy Collins' Taking Off Emily Dickinson's Clothes Upon first look, Billy Collins â€Å"Taking Off Emily Dickinson’s Clothes† seems to be a wild fantasy for Emily Dickinson that he is entertaining. Upon closer examination, however, the poem reveals his subconscious desire to have sex with his mother and his frustration about his inability to do so, resulting in the displacement of his sexual desires onto Dickinson. From the beginning, Collins is very detailed with his description. In fact he is quite anal retentive in explaining everything about the encounter. He starts from her outside clothing, â€Å"first, her tippet made of tulle† (1) and on through her mass of clothing until finally reaching her â€Å"corset† (41). Collins proclaims that the tippet is â€Å"easily lifted off her shoulders† (2), which lets people know that he is doing the work. Dickinson is simply standing there allowing him to touch and undress her. Perhaps this reflects that Collins is not often in control and never in control when it concerns his mother. He is probably constantly being told what to do, so it is very important that the reader realizes that he is in control of this situation. This may be why he projects Dickinson as immobile; he is simply projecting his inability to be in control onto Dickson. Collins then turns towards her â€Å"bonnet, the bow undone with a light forward pull† (4-5). The way he pulls the bonnet with a â€Å"light† (5) pulls shows how he feels it necessary to go about this situation very carefully and gently. He is using Dickinson to hide his feelings for his mother, and if he does not tread lightly, he may be found out. It can be easily inferred who he does not want to know, namely his father becau... ...laims that â€Å"Hope has feathers/ that reason is a plank/ that life is a loaded gun† (44-46). In essence he seems to be saying that while maybe how he feels is not right, that there is hope, and reason is such a narrow thing, and that life can blow up at anytime, so why bother with pretences. He seems to conclude that the definition between wrong and right can constitute a gray area, and in doing so redeems himself from the idea that lusting after his mother is immoral. While on the surface Collins seems to want Emily Dickinson, with a close reading it becomes clear that he is actually obsessed with his mother. His displacement shows how he at least tries to hide is incestuous desires, while his anal retentiveness shows his wish to be in control. The indications that run throughout the poem reveal Collins’ true feelings, and his inability to hide them.

Company A was initially formed as a group of engineering students to undertake the project of modifying and coding a Boot to automatically move around a maze as quickly as possible. The group was formed by Dry S. Watson, the project supervisor. The group consisted of four students: J. Peters, A. Shabbier, A. Mohammed and O. Added. The students began their project through the organized Company 1 meetings. In their first meeting they were introduced to each other, though J. Peters was absent, which disadvantaged him later in the project.The group cited that their first action would be to organize a group meeting in the week, before the next company meeting, a good pro-active decision. It was observed that no leadership took place in the group with everyone inputting questions that the group could not answer. The Part D students were then able to answer some questions. In the meeting the group did not discuss project strategy, but discussed sensor systems, there was no clear sensory sys tem decided with A. Shabbier wanting to research into sonar systems and A.Mohammed continuing research into IR sensors and QUIT sensors. Over the next two weeks the group began to realize their task and formed their project structure based on the diagram, [ Figure 1 ]. The strategy overall was carried out well throughout the group, as they became more aware of mistakes that may have occurred without the plan and check stages. Once the strategy was in place, the Plan section was implemented. Within the plan stage the group took into account the following factors for equipment choice: Cost, Complexity and Acceptability.An example of this method was the choice of sensors, the group decided to use IR sensors, as they were cheaper than sonar systems, they were the east complex of all the systems and achieved the groups' requirements. This decision making process was very powerful, as it gave the groups specific criteria that they had to uphold and it prevented members from verging off to pic, which they were prone to doing. The group decided to create sub-systems and allocate a person per sub-system, though this was a sensible systematic approach (though it could have been improved by using at a job design chart, such as in [ Figure 21). Breaking down the sub-systems affected the group with some tasks much simpler and straight forward than others. This process led to J. Peters and A. Mohammed wanting the same roles.The decision was made by the rest of the group that A. Mohammed would be better suited to the desired role. J. Peters had little contact with the group up until that point and this showed in the groups' deci sion. J. Peters was left with the difficult task of producing the interim report for the group. This was a poor decision by the group as it meant that they issue also arose from the sub-system approach, where during one week; more than one member of the group was absent. This led to a halt in progress of the project in the areas where team members were away, as absent team members knew their role, but the other team members did not.This should have been factored into the projects' risk contingency plan; however this was yet to be created by J. Peters. This failure resulted in a week without progress and certainly created tension not only thin the group, but between the group and supervisor as well. A better strategy would have been to split the design into sub-systems, but within each sub-system, tasks could be created and given to members of the group, allowing more than one group member to have knowledge of each sub-system to ensure progress continues.What sequence? Therefore the approach taken by he group was to use their project PICA strategy and they were able to modify the wheel by creating an extension to use the original w heel as a shaft for a larger wheel.This shows good initiative from the group, however the issue should not and would limitation control. The group would have been better to choose a product design strategy, where they generated a concept, which they could feedback to the supervisor in a company meeting, who could then evaluate the groups' design, making sure it is suitable for the set requirements. This would make sure the design fits the requirements and if not, it could be improved until it did. The groups' strategy for their hardware sub-system had certain requirements, one of which included a LED display.The display was a creative concept as many ideas in the group were; however there was a delay in delivery (due to the University) which the group had not planned for. This delay was unplanned for with no risk contingency plan in place. This therefore meant the group had to alter their Giant chart to their needs at that time. This was poorly planned, as a better Giant chart would have had extra time allocated for work that could not be completed at the specific time.
